Illustration Friday—Lesson
May 3, 2011
My first thought for “lesson” was to show mama bird pushing her babes out the nest, but then I figured Mama’s got a whole clutch of wee ones and forcing out all her loved chicks unsupervised was just too heart wrenching. So, here’s Mama conducting a group flying “lesson” while clutching three terrified, thrilled and traumatized tweeters.

Love their little baby birdy safety slings!
nicely thought! i love seeing the wings in action and all that movement 🙂
I like the concept and beautifully rendered.
Love this! The tweeters look terrified if not thrilled!
Wonderful. I love the little bird harnesses. I drew a bird with a saddle & bit once.
Really cool. You should make Disney or Dreamworks movies. Your animals are full of human life.
I love the look on mom’s face!
Awesome !
Cool, I think I just saw that same brood zigzag through my backyard barely missing the birdfeeder!
Nice 🙂
Absolutely Beautiful:)
this is beautiful!
Beautiful work. The range of the birds expressions is fantastic.
You always amaze me…this one is spectacular: the composition and line work in the wings…there’s so much movement! And you have a real ability to put real expressions on animal’s faces, which is really difficult. (Heck, I spent ages trying o draw my darn chicken this weekend to no avail, so I know how hard it is!)
Gorgeous!
I love it!
LOL. What an efficient child-rearing concept. Perfect for Mother’s Day too. Thanks for commenting on my etegami blog. 😀
Great little illustration!
The animation in this is just incredible. Beautifully done.
Heisann! My mother’s heart is melting, totally, I’m touched ;:OD)
Penelope, these are sooooo cute. Love them!
Love the little “tweeters”! Awesome illustration. Just awesome.
Lovely concept and sketch.
Awww, training wheels for chicks, very sweet. Lovely shading. Did you colour your line in photoshop or is that the shade of your pencil? Great colour.
I love this piece! Amazing.
Hello my friend. I know I commented over on the OTHER site but I couldn’t pass up gushing here as well. I agree with Rubin – you personification is so endearing and perfect. Every image you create is memorable.
PS – our nest of House Wren eggs began to hatch on Mother’s Day. Just another wonderful animal gift bestowed on me this day.
This is so cute!
Great movement effect on this and showing of ‘strain’…favorite…
