Illustration Friday—Imperfect

August 7, 2011

She whispered to herself, “I’m ‘imperfect’ with these black stripes.” But Mama’s big ears and even bigger heart missed nothing. In her soft voice, she soothed, “Life’s simple. It’s all about space.”

Bewildered, Zurura—who had lost her herd had been adopted by this elephant family—felt the soft touch of many trunks and heard her adopted Mama explain. “No, never ‘imperfect.’ Simply add space (and an apostrophe) and change it to ‘I’m perfect’ and forget the rest.”

This is a lovely illustration. You’re pencil work is beautiful, as is the interpretation of the theme.
Thank you for the kind words about my piece for week as well! It was nice to hear someone’s similar story about those haircuts gone awry!

    Hello Penelope!

OOoooh….I’m with Hazel. This sweet poignant drawing touched my heart deeply. ((hugs))

I have been offline for about two weeks–my computer’s mothahboard died, so my entire computer had to be rebuilt. Thank the Lord we didn’t lose anything on the hard drive.

We have a new kitten in our house–her name is Princess Twinkle Toes–she’s a tortoise shell, with six toes on each foot–with more personality than a tiny body has a right to have. So happy to have this little flea of a kitten rampaging around my office and studio!

I adore your artwork–I am one of your biggest fans (as you know). lol Have a perfectly marvelous week!

Oh my, Penelope…just when I think that you can’t possibly get any more *perfect*…you do it even more astonishingly. I am in awe. This one just takes my breath away!

I am so behind…this is astounding. Not only do you have this wonderful way with your pencil but an amazing way with verse. I don’t know what moved me more, the image or the story. You’ve blown me away again, my friend.

Soooo beautiful…the concept is lovely, and then you’ve executed it so beautifully. The way the lines of their trunks all converge on Zurura and the way she’s detailed…gorgeous! (I know you have such a heart for animal rescue: I just started following The Gentle Barn website. The animal profile stories on there are so charming…I think they need your illustrations, though!
