Heaven, Earth, and a Blue Moon

November 22, 2010

Yesterday, Nov. 21st, we had a “blue moon” but not because there are two full moons this month. There aren’t. The true meaning of a “blue moon” comes when there are four full moons in one season. Each season has three full moons: early, mid and late, but when there are four in a season the third is called “blue.

So, this fall season, early and mid moons were Sept. 23 and Oct. 22, making Nov. 21st ‘s moon blue, with the late moon happening Dec. 21 at 3:13AM and the winter season beginning with the solstice happening 15 hours, 25 minutes later at 6:38pm. How cool is that?

“Heaven, Earth and a Blue Moon” is a sketch for a friend that simply started with the sphere of the moon…

We’re all about education and fun over here! Tee hee. I’m probably the only one, but I just thought the blue moon thing was so darn cool…always thought it was the two fulls in the same month.
